Popular cleric, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has sparked widespread debate on social media after delivering a blunt message to men ahead of Valentine’s Day, cautioning them against taking on responsibilities that are not theirs.
While addressing his congregation, the preacher questioned why some men feel compelled to provide for women in ways their fathers could not. According to him, love should not be driven by pressure or unrealistic expectations.
In his words, he said:
“How do you want to do for her what her father could not do? Stop carrying people’s issues on your head. You cannot be a father to who you did not birth.”
Apostle Suleman stressed that men preparing for marriage must clearly understand their roles, noting that being a fiancé does not mean inheriting unresolved family problems or spiritual struggles.
“You are a fiancé, not a father. You can’t inherit the demons her father saw and avoided. If she comes to you for school fees and God has blessed you, pay. But if you’re struggling, pray,” he added.
He further advised that relationships should be guided by wisdom, capacity, and balance, especially in a challenging economic climate where many people are already under pressure.
