Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has dismissed ongoing rumors regarding his potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying that he remains committed to the Labour Party (LP).
Addressing the speculation amid a wave of recent high-profile defections to the ruling party, Otti insisted that his political path is guided by principle rather than popular trends.
Otti cautioned that political decisions should not be made out of convenience or the desire to follow a “prevailing wave.” He emphasized that every leader has unique circumstances and should not join a party simply because others are doing so.
“Those waiting for me to defect to APC will have to wait a longer time. Everyone has their own opinion and circumstances; you don’t just join APC because many other governors are joining,” he stated.
The Governor explained that any alignment with a political party must be based on shared visions and clear objectives for the people. He noted that those anticipating his switch would have to “wait a little longer,” as he is currently focused on fulfilling his mandate in Abia.
“Alignment with any political party must be based on clearly defined objectives and a shared vision, rather than convenience… major political decisions should not be influenced by pressure or the actions of others,” he added.
