Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has recently faced backlash online over his promotion of the movie Kilanko, directed by his late friend Allwell Ademola.
Salami shared photos and clips from the film to generate interest, earning praise from some fans for honoring his friend’s work. However, not everyone agreed. A social media user criticized him, claiming he was “using” the late actress to market the movie.
The user commented:
“I don’t know why you are using this lady to sell film? Please, let her rest peacefully.”
Salami responded candidly, addressing the criticism:
“Some people comment with so much ignorance. If it were your turn, would you hide or disregard the hard work of your late loved ones?”
The incident underscores the delicate balance between celebrating a late colleague’s work and facing accusations of exploiting their memory.
Kilanko was among Allwell Ademola’s final projects, and Salami’s posts reveal how social media can quickly turn even simple promotion into controversy.
