A student at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) is in critical condition after being hit by a commercial tricycle (keke napep) while rushing to an early morning exam. The student was trying to reach a test reportedly scheduled for around 5 a.m..

The student and a coursemate were hit by a tricycle that was allegedly moving against traffic (one-way) right in front of the university.

The student’s sister shared a video, stating her brother is currently unconscious and faces potential amputation of his leg. She pleaded for financial help, noting that hospital bills are overwhelming.

The sister also claimed the tricycle operator was arrested but is about to be released, and that the university has not provided assistance, with the SUG being the one to contact the family.

She said in part…

“University of Abuja you need to come to my aid at this point, I cannot do it alone; I’m traumatized. How school go dey set test around 5 am? He was struggling to go to school this morning, in front of university of Abuja that was how keke cleared him. The keke was following one-way. As I am talking to you now, he is unconscious, and they’re about to do surgery. As I am talking to you now, it’s 50/50; it’s either they do the surgery or they remove the leg. Please the bills is too much for me. It was the SUG that called me to come and carry my brother. They took him to two hospitals they rejected him because of the condition. As I am talking to you now, they arrested the keke man but they’re about to release him.”
