A Nigerian lady has ignited discussions on social media after making a bold claim about why some men are drawn to “independent women” in relationships.
In a video that went viral on X (formerly Twitter) and shared by @Teniola, she suggested that men’s interest in financially self-sufficient women often stems more from convenience than genuine admiration.
She explained that men may prefer women who earn their own income because it makes it easier to borrow money when needed.
As she put it:
“The reason why men want an independent woman is to borrow money from them. There’s no woman I know that hasn’t borrowed a guy money.”
