A Nigerian man has taken to social media to allege misconduct by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming the agency now demands bail payments in foreign currency instead of Naira.
The man stated that his claim is based on a personal experience involving his brother, who is currently detained and dealing with the anti-graft agency. He shared his concern over what he described as a shift away from Nigeria’s local currency, questioning why the country would officially operate using dollars instead of naira.
The man quoted his experience, saying, “I want you to be aware that EFCC do not collect bail in Naira again. This one no be say person tell me; na wetin my brother dey face. I don’t know when Nigeria started operating with Dollars, instead of our own local currency,”.
In addition to the bail demand, the man alleged that EFCC operatives carried out a raid on his apartment while he was absent and stole several personal items. He claimed they took items including perfumes, power banks, wristwatches, drinks, and even a PlayStation (PS) pad. He added that more items would have been taken if they had been found during the operation.
He specifically questioned the theft of personal hygiene products, stating, “EFCC raided my apartment and made away with my perfume, my power banks, watches… Tell me what EFCC is doing with my perfume. Even PS pad they stole it…”.
