Veteran journalist and political analyst Reuben Abati has sharply criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the move was motivated by personal ambition rather than public interest.

Abati dismissed Governor Fubara’s claim that he defected “because of Rivers people” as untrue, stating that the governor moved to the APC primarily for his own benefit and to secure a second term in office.

The analyst further contended that the defection serves as conclusive proof that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, remains the dominant political force in the state.

Abati’s critique views the defection as a self-serving political maneuver, cementing the idea that Wike still dictates the political direction and “owns the game” in Rivers State.
