A fruit seller identified as Muhammed was reportedly shot dead during a raid by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Makoko.

The incident reportedly occurred when NDLEA officers arrived in the area to arrest suspected drug dealers. Their presence allegedly caused panic as residents and traders fled, leaving behind their goods.

An eyewitness who shared the account online claimed the officers first attempted to arrest some suspected dealers but met resistance from local touts, allowing the suspects to escape.

The eyewitness wrote: “NDLEA came to Makoko yesterday evening trying to arrest some drug dealers.”

According to the account, the situation quickly escalated as people ran in different directions.

“They got to a street before mine in rage, made everyone run helter-skelter with some leaving their wares behind.”

The eyewitness added that while the officers were leaving the area, they saw the fruit seller who had remained at his stall.

“While they were leaving, they saw an Aboki caring for his goods who stubbornly refused to run and was the only one in the empty street.”

The witness alleged that the officers then shot the man.

“They shot the Aboki fruit seller (he was one of my favourite fruit seller) on his forehead and he died instantly.”

The man was identified as Muhammed.

“They shot him just because he didn’t run like the others. It was an hour to Iftar.”

The eyewitness further claimed that the officers left immediately after the shooting.

“They shot him and immediately ran away. He did them nothing.”

NDLEA has not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
