A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, identified as Doctor Zo, has alleged that some medical practitioners in Africa engage in unethical practices by performing fake appendix surgeries to make money.
According to him, certain doctors allegedly inform patients that they require an appendectomy a surgical procedure to remove the appendix and even take them into the operating theatre. However, he claimed that in some cases, no actual surgery is carried out because the patients never had appendicitis in the first place.
Doctor Zo further alleged that when such patients later relocate to countries like Canada, the United States, or parts of Europe and eventually undergo a genuine appendectomy, medical examinations reveal surgical scars from the earlier procedure. He claimed that despite the presence of scars, there had been no real removal of the appendix during the initial operation.
His claims have sparked conversations online, with many calling for stronger medical oversight and accountability, while others cautioned against generalizing the actions of a few individuals to the entire medical community.
