Popular comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun (AY), has raised concerns over excessive service charges imposed by Nigerian commercial banks. He questioned how banks continue to report trillions of naira in profits each quarter despite the country’s struggling economy.

Taking to his X handle, AY criticized the numerous deductions from customers’ accounts, arguing that many of the fees are unique to Nigeria and should be challenged.

“Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy? The small charges and debits on our accounts need to be challenged. Many of these fees are unique to Nigeria. Why is that?” he wrote, using hashtags like #BankingFees, #Nigeria, and #Transparency.

His statement has sparked discussions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their frustrations over unexplained bank charges.
