Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has stirred reactions online after criticising Nigerian politicians over alleged hypocrisy in governance and personal conduct.
Sowore made the statement while reacting to comments and actions linked to former Edo State governor and APC chieftain Adams Oshiomhole. According to him, Nigerian leaders often claim to make tough economic decisions in the name of national interest, while allegedly living indulgent lifestyles.
In his words, Sowore accused politicians of “removing subsidy from the poor while subsidising their libidos,” suggesting that public officials cut social support for ordinary citizens but allegedly spend lavishly on personal pleasures.
He further argued that Oshiomhole is not an exception, claiming that such behaviour cuts across Nigeria’s political class.
Sowore alleged that many Nigerian politicians publicly preach sacrifice and discipline, yet privately engage in relationships with hook-up ladies and other excesses, which he says contradicts their public image.
