Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has stirred reactions online following a statement addressing residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, amid growing security concerns in the area.
In a video shared on his platform, the outspoken commentator urged members of the community to take proactive steps to ensure their safety.
“People of Angwan Rukuba, gather anything and defend yourselves. I know they’ll say I’m encouraging violence, but do everything to protect yourselves,” he said.
His remarks come against the backdrop of recurring security challenges in parts of Jos, where residents have occasionally raised alarm over attacks and insufficient protection.
While some supporters praised his stance as a call for self-preservation in the face of danger, others criticised the statement, warning that such remarks could escalate tensions or promote vigilantism.
Security experts have consistently advised civilians to rely on law enforcement agencies for protection, cautioning against actions that could further destabilise affected communities.
