Yoruba actress Remilekun Oshodi, popularly known as Remi Surutu, has sparked online discussions after publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Surutu made her support known at the launch of EKO57, a pro-Tinubu group aimed at rallying backing for the president’s second-term campaign, held in Lagos on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
Speaking at the event, which attracted fellow Nollywood figures such as Aremu Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, and Lege Miami, the actress reflected on the criticism she faced over her political engagement. Surutu revealed that trolls had previously blamed her for her daughter’s death due to her political stance.
Undeterred by past backlash, she affirmed her commitment to continue advocating for Tinubu.
“Just a day before the election, people accused me of following Asiwaju and blamed him for my child’s death. I paid it no mind. I went out to vote the next day because your vote is your right. Don’t let anyone intimidate or mislead you. When I met Tinubu, our father, I saw he’s doing well. If you believe he hasn’t achieved enough, suggest someone from your family to govern for a single day you’ll understand the challenges then,” Surutu stated.
She also highlighted that many of the nation’s current issues did not originate with the present administration and praised Tinubu for quietly addressing several problems behind the scenes.
“If this man has not been covering a lot of things, Nigeria would have gone into big mess by now but we don’t know, we just sit at the back of our houses,” she said.
