Brazilian-born influencer and model Suellen Carey has announced the end of her one-year self-marriage, saying the experience eventually became overwhelming.
Carey, 36, gained international attention last year after holding a self-wedding ceremony in London, an event she shared with her over 400,000 Instagram followers. The unconventional celebration sparked global conversations about sologamy ( the act of marrying oneself.)
Despite her commitment, Carey revealed that maintaining the union was more challenging than expected. She attended ten sessions of couples-style therapy alone in an effort to navigate the emotional demands of her decision.
Reflecting on the experience, she said the pressure to be perfect for herself left her mentally and emotionally exhausted. However, she described the journey as enriching and a period of deep self-reflection and personal growth.
Carey added that she is now ready to move forward and open her heart to new possibilities, including the chance of finding a partner.
