Ohafia youths and women staged a protest against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in Umuahia, expressing their disapproval of his political actions and vowing not to support his 2027 Senate bid.
The demonstrators, organized by the Ohafia Youth Association, marched to Police Zone 9 Headquarters on Wednesday, declaring Kalu persona non grata.
They accused him of betraying the community by labeling Ohafia an IPOB zone in 2023, which they said led to military operations and voter intimidation. Protesters also criticized him for neglecting essential development projects, including roads and hospitals.
The protest turned tense as police used teargas to disperse the crowd. Protesters rejected any dialogue outside their hometown, though Ohafia traditional leaders later condemned the demonstration as unconstitutional.
