British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has survived a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash, which occurred around 11:00 am on Monday, December 29, 2025, tragically claimed the lives of two other passengers in his vehicle.

The 36-year-old former world champion was traveling in a Lexus SUV as part of a two-vehicle convoy when the car collided with a stationary truck near the Makun axis, close to the Danco Filling Station.

According to the Ogun State Police Command and eyewitness accounts, the Lexus carried four occupants at the time of the impact

Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed that Joshua was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest a mechanical failure may have been the catalyst.

“I can confirm an accident occurred… A vehicle rammed into a stationary vehicle. Unfortunately, there were two fatalities. Anthony Joshua was involved and has been taken to hospital.”

Reports indicate that a tire burst on the Lexus, causing the driver to lose control and ram into the idle truck parked along the highway.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, issued a brief statement while away on holiday, acknowledging the viral images:

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images. We are awaiting more information.”

The accident occurred just ten days after Joshua’s high-profile sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. Joshua had traveled to Nigeria to spend the holidays and reconnect with his roots before beginning preparations for a potential 2026 clash with Tyson Fury.
