The stage is set for another major show of community, talent and unity as the Abig Nwankwo Foundation prepares to host the third edition of its annual football competition exclusively for indigenes of Okija. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 1, 2025, at St. Mary’s Field, Okija, with the grand finale slated for January 7, 2026 at the same venue.
Football Players from all nine Obi areas of Okija will compete, offering a platform for home-grown talents to shine, passions to ignite, and community spirit to flourish.
According to the Chairman and Founder Abig Nwankwo Foundation, Ichie Abig Chimezie Nwankwo (Owelle Okija), “I love my town Okija very much that I can do anything for its growth and development. I believe so much in the youth of my town, and I won’t stop encouraging them by the little God has blessed me with.” His commitment, he says, is driven by a deep desire to invest in the future of Okija through youth engagement and sports.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Organizing Committee and Director of Operations at Bigly Group of Companies, Engr. Chukwuma Nwabuikwu, emphasised the crucial role of sports in “fostering unity and peace within communities.” He applauded the Foundation’s efforts to support youth activities that promote stability and collective identity in Okija.
The tournament, proudly sponsored by Bigly Group promises to be more than just a contest of skill; it will serve as a celebration of camaraderie, hope, and community pride. Organizers also expect a strong turnout of supporters, local dignitaries, and stakeholders with the grand finale expected to attract the presence of the Chukwuma Charles Soludo-led Anambra State Government and other notable guests.
