The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has laid off all its Nigerian employees, citing a “total re-organisation” of the plant.
The development came less than 24 hours after about 90% of the workers joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), according to political commentator Imran Wakili.
A memo dated September 25, 2025, signed by Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, directed staff to return company property and process exit clearance, while the finance department was tasked with computing their entitlements.
The refinery has been in a long-running dispute with PENGASSAN over unionization.
