The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Adeyeri, has called on estate agents in Iseyin to stop exploiting students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, by charging excessive agent fees for accommodation.

Oba Adeyeri made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting at his palace on Wednesday, addressing complaints from students about extortion by estate agents following the relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to Iseyin in 2023.

Reports indicated that agents were charging multiple agent fees on the same accommodation, making rents unaffordable for students. The monarch urged agents to stop such practices and directed that any agent caught extorting students would face legal consequences.

The meeting also included representatives from LAUTECH, who expressed gratitude for the Aseyin’s intervention and discussed other issues, including security and transportation. The Aseyin appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his support in improving Iseyin’s infrastructure and commended the LAUTECH governing council for its efforts in addressing student issues.
