Nigeria to Host 13th ECOWAS Wrestling Tournament in Abuja

Nigeria will host the 13th ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament in Abuja from March 6 to 8, 2025, as part of events marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States.

The championship will take place at the Velodrome, Package A of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, bringing together top wrestlers from across West Africa. The tournament is a collaborative effort between ECOWAS and the National Sports Commission.

Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, expressed excitement over Nigeria’s selection as host, assuring that the country would deliver a high-standard event.

NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, also welcomed the development, describing it as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s capacity to organize international sporting events.

The three-day tournament will feature male and female wrestlers competing across various weight categories, with participating countries expected to present their best athletes.

This marks the second major regional wrestling event hosted by Nigeria in recent years, reinforcing the country’s growing profile in West African sports.
